Changes To Accepting Timber Waste
The Environment Agency have made amendments governing the handling of construction and demolition waste wood are coming into force on 1st September 2023. These changes classify some wood/timber items from pre-2007 buildings as potentially hazardous, these include:
- Barge boards, external fascias, and soffit boards
- External joinery and external doors
- Roof timber, tiling cladding, tiling battens
- Timber frames and joists
You must not mix these in with other skip waste.
In the event that you have any of these items to dispose of and you believe them to be from pre-2007 buildings, you must contact the office in advance to discuss options for testing and disposal.
Please don’t place these items into a skip without prior agreement, as this would result in a breach of Environmental Regulations. In the event that the above items from pre-2007 buildings are mixed in with the other wastes within the skip and no prior contact has been made, regrettably, we will need to apply a fee to cover the cost of testing, sorting and disposal.
We appreciate this change in regulations brings a number of challenges, but it remains our priority to remain compliant and to protect our environment, whilst continuing to support our customers with their waste management.
